Orkut celebrates India’s Independence with its Users

Poll to seek users opinion

New Delhi (August 10, 2007) – Google Inc. today announced that it is running an opinion poll on the Orkut™ site to celebrate India’s 60th Independence along with its users. This poll will invite users to express their views and opinions on significant moments and achievements that India has seen since Independence. Posted on select communities the poll will run on the website through August 15, 2007.

Orkut has become a forum where millions of Internet users connect, express themselves and communicate freely. The poll aims at strengthening these values by creating a sprit of comradeship and a common discussion ground amongst people of different age, cultures and communities.

Shailesh Rao, Managing Director, Google India says, "We are proud to be a part of India’s 60th Independence celebrations and know that the energy, enthusiasm and conviction so apparent throughout Orkut communities will be on display as we ask users for their opinions through this poll. Orkut has always been associated with youthfulness and zeal and we are very pleased with the response and affection that Indian users have shown towards Orkut."

The questions being asked on the poll will be fun, vibrant and spirited; users can participate in the poll by logging on to Orkut and visiting the official Orkut Blog from where they will be directed to the communities hosting the polls.
